The Rookery - best roast in South West London

I’ve passed by this place several times (it’s in between Clapham Common and Clapham South tubes) and always thought it looked lovely, but have never got round to going in. A couple of weekends ago myself and some mates finally went for a Sunday roast.

The decor is cosy and rustic, somewhere between a bar and a restaurant, informal but classy and complete with crafted wooden furniture and log fire making the type of place you can happily sit for hours.

Between us we tried the pork belly, the beef and the chicken and all of them were pretty spectacular. Definitely the roast dinners with the most love I have seen put in since I have been in London – some great flavours, well cooked veg and friendly staff that understood gluten free requirements (and a kitchen happy to make changes to dishes to make them gluten friendly). Just check with them when you order, main issues for the roasts seemed to be the gravy, but they were happy to do a GF jus instead.

Recommendation: the pork belly (with GF jus rather than the gravy which has a bit of flour)

Overall score: 5/5 Gluten dodging score: 4/5
